Something To Know

LLACHON PENINSULA OF CAPACHICA

The peninsula of Capachica at Lake Titicaca, is located on the northern of Puno city 75 km  (1 hour and 30 minutes drive). This community has over 1,500 inhabitants spread out the peninsula and they belong to the ethnic group of Quechuas.

It takes 1:45 minutes on boat ride from Puno to Llachon and the return by bus is a good example to appreciate the highlands (altiplano).. The major economic activities on this community are farming, livestock and fishing. Just during the last 10 years these people realized that tourism can help to improve  their way of living.

AMANTANI ISLAND

On this island Amantani people have also a Quechua origin and they are mainly small farmers. The most important crops in Amantani are Andean potatoes,  The "Amantaneños" probably are one of  kindest people over lake Titicaca, which is amazing that living on the island most of them are not fishermen.

The houses are very simple and services are basic. There is no running water, no electricity and of course no toilets or showers. For many people this is a home-stay experience and encounter with the host family.

TAQUILE ISLAND

inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems, as well as fine hand weaving techniques, down through the generations.  Taquile is place where the time has stopped. There you will see a community that conserves original Inca and pre-inca social traditions and organizations. The isolation has kept them almost untouched by the modern world. This enchanting Island with long shape is full of Inca terraces and some pre-Inca remains on its top.
